Kiyomizudera Temple
Kiyomizu 清水 means "pure water"

The Kiyomizudera Temple is located in Kyoto Japan and is notably one of the best sights in the city.  The buildings of the temple were built in 1633, however the temple itself dates back to 798.

Kiyomizudera's temple grounds are huge with many grand, elaborate structures built on them. Most of the buildings are designated "Important Cultural Property", even the stables.

Kiyomizu Temple’s main hall is famous for its great veranda, supported by hundreds of pillars, which sticks out over the hillside, looking over Kyoto. Beneath it is the waterfall Otowa-no-taki, where three streams of water fall into a pond. Visitors collect the water, which is thought to have healing properties, from the waterfall in metal cups—drinking it is said to give health, a long life and success with studies.

In 1994, the Kiyomizudera Temple was added to the list of UNESECO World Heritage Sites.  It was also one of the finalists for the 7 Wonders of the World; which were chosen on July 7, 2007.

I have included sites that will allow you to become more familiar with the famous temple and understand the culture and history behind this great structure.
